Did you know William Steig spent five days at the Yale School of Fine Arts before dropping out? That he did 117 New Yorker covers? That he created the idea of the contemporary greeting card? Neither did we. The excellent book, "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," by William Joyce, is being made into a movie by Blue Sky Studios and is slated for release the summer of 2013. The World of William Joyce Exhibition is available from the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature for 10 week rentals at a cost of 5K. The American Library Association has a list of Great Websites for Kids featuring many children's book author websites. Of his own books, Eric Carle has said his favorite is "Do You Want to be my Friend."

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle
Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a board book, but nothing boring about it. Where to start? With the genius plot of a very hungry caterpillar wanting to satiate a very big appetite? With the genius touch of the touch of the actual holes left behind as the very hungry caterpillar literally eats his way through the boards of the book you hold in your hands? read more

Two Badd Babies, Jeffie Ross Gordon, Illustrated by Chris L. Demarest Love the title, great title, a heads-up to the fun that will come. In a book that is all about sound--alliteration and assonance, rhythm and rhyme-the two Badd babies take their crib out for a spin on the town. An exuberant, ebullient, over-the-top read--rev up the crib.read more
